An Untoward Generation 

Acts 2:40 ⁴⁰ And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.

In the first sermon ever preached by the Holy Spirit filled Church of our Lord Jesus Christ, Peter declared, . . . Save yourselves from this untoward generation.  Without a doubt the people of Peter’s day were not seeking God for they had crucified the Lord Jesus Christ.  Yet, Almighty-God was still seeking those untoward people.  God sent the very best that heaven had to offer to save all that would hear and respond to the gospel message.  That day more than three thousand souls were added to the Church. 

Today, we live in a generation that is also untoward.  People are not seeking God, our culture works in opposition to God. Our entertainment largely mocks God and any who would be the peculiar people of God.  Yet, God and His people are still reaching out to these untoward people with the gospel message.  Our resurrected Lord and Savior is still the answer for the immorality, and evils of our culture.  All who will hear the message, . . .Save yourselves from this untoward generation, can still receive the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior and step into the glorious, abounding life we know as the children of God. 

Let us never doubt the dynamic power of the message we carry.  It won three thousand souls that first day and is no less powerful today.  Let us proclaim it faithfully as Peter did and know that the same Holy Spirit that empowered him empowers us today.
