To Be Like God
Ephesians
5:1-4
1
Be ye therefore followers of
God, as dear children; 2
And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given
himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling
savour. 3 But fornication,
and all uncleanness, or covetousness,
let it not be
once named among you, as becometh saints;
4 Neither filthiness, nor
foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather
giving of thanks.
As the children of God we ought to have an insatiable
desire to please our Heavenly Father.
The best way to please our Heavenly Father is to strive to be
just like Him. To be a
follower of God means to be an imitator or mimic of God.
Just as young children desire to grow up to be just like their
daddy, so we ought to desire to be just like our Heavenly Father.
I also note verses 3-4 in this text and the list of
things that should not be named among us,
not even once.
In a culture that seems to soak in these very characteristics like a
sponge God’s Word warns Christians to not allow these to be named among
them a single time. I often
meet and talk with people, who call themselves the children of God, and
yet seem to excuse many of these characteristics as if they weren’t
really all that important.
It seems that people, who are supposed to belong to God, will allow some
things to be a part of their life that God’s asks them to put
distinctively and decisively out of their life.
Christian, how do you feel about sin in your life? Will you allow some sin into your life simply because you find it easy to ask for God’s forgiveness? Your Heavenly Father asks you to not allow these things to enter into your life a single time. Sin is a terrible thing. Sin in a Christian’s life will take them farther than they want to go, keep them longer than they want to stay, and cost them more than they want to pay. Don’t let sin into your life, not even once!
