A Thought For Your Christian Journey:

A Tithe Of Time

I have often preached that faithful followers of our Lord Jesus Christ should tithe and give of their time, talents, and treasure.  But what if we were to tithe of our time?  Since a tithe is clearly 10% according to the Bible, then perhaps a tithe of our time might look something like this.

We all are given 168 hours every week (except when we experience Daylight Savings Time changesJ).  So we all ought to give God back 16.8 hours a week.

If you give:

Time in hours

Task

1.5

Getting ready, going, and returning from Church on Sunday Morning.

2.5

Sunday School and Sunday Morning Worship

1

Getting ready, going, and returning from Church on Sunday Evening.

1.5

Sunday Evening Worship

1

Getting ready, going, and returning from Church on Wednesday Evening.

1.5

Wednesday Evening Worship

3.5

hour daily personal God and I time

3.5

hour family God and I time

16

Approximately 4 hours of time remains each month to give two hours to outreach and two hours to another ministry of your choosing.

16.8 hours would be merely your tithe of time, if you will.  Anything over that would constitute your love gift in time to your Lord.

It is interesting that when we think of good Churchmanship and the need for a Church’s members to support the regular services of a Church that this tithe of time just fits what most Churches schedule weekly.  A second thought might include that a tithe is always meant to be given to ones local Church and hence your tithe of time once again fits the ticket nicely.  Many Christians give time to extra Church organizations, and that’s great as your love offering to our Lord.

It just something to think about.
