Shine!
Matthew 5:13-16
13
Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour,
wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast
out, and to be trodden under foot of men. 14
Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot
be hid. 15 Neither do men light a
candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light
unto all that are in the house. 16
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and
glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Yesterday I attended a local pastors fellowship and heard
evangelist Matt Downs preach on this passage.
He focused his message on one word in the passage the word
Shine.
Matt pointed out the many pastor’s encourage their members to pray and
read their Bibles daily. Matt also
noted that as he travels from Church to Church he finds that the Church members
he talks to indicate that they do read their Bibles and pray as they ought.
Matt then went on to ask, “How often do we remind our Church folk to
Shine for Jesus?”
Indeed, born again Christians need to Shine for our Lord.
I thought it was amazing how God worked Matt’s message in with the
message I had preached just last Sunday Morning on the same passage of
scripture. As our Heavenly Father’s
children we need to let our light Shine
to the glory of our Lord. Living
our lives out for Christ ought to be brilliant and inviting to those who meet us
and know us. There is nothing grim,
dull or sad about walking with and working for our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore, my Christian brothers and sisters let us be sure to shine for
our Lord.
Matt Downs provided the following acrostic to help us understand what it might mean to Shine for our Lord.
S – Seek to be friendly – Luke 10.25-37 – Matt used the Good Samaritan as a great example.
H – Hell is for real – Rev 20.14-15, The reality of hell ought to drive us to share the Gospel. My thought here is that Friends Don’t Let Friends Go To Hell.
I – Inconvenient opportunities can be turned into great opportunities – Acts 8.26-35
N – Never be discouraged – Heb 12.2-3
E – Explain the
Gospel clearly and in your own way
Evangelist Matt Downs is right, every born again Christian needs to make it point to Shine for Jesus everyday.
