A. A Human Testimony (vs 33-35; John 1.29-34; 1 Cor 15.1-9) [ Ye sent unto John, and he bare witness unto the truth. 34 But I receive not testimony from man: but these things I say, that ye might be saved. 35 He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light. - Those who testified for our Lord include,]

1.  The Forerunner testified for Jesus (John 1.29-34) [- John the Baptist.]

[John 1:29-34 29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. 30 This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me. 31 And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water. 32 And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. 33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. 34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.]

2.  The Apostles Testified for Jesus (1 Cor 15.5,7; Acts 2.22-24,32-33,38-41).

·        [Peter's Sermon at Pentecost (Acts 2.22-24,32-33,38-41).]

[Acts 2:14-41 22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know: 23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain: 24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it . . . 32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. 33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear . . . 38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. 40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. 41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. ]

·        [Stephen  and Philip (Acts 7.59-60; 8.35)

[Acts 7:59-60 59 And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. 60 And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.]

[Acts 8:35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.]

·        [All of the Apostles save John died martyr's deaths for their testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ.]

3.  The Multitudes Testified for Jesus (1 Cor 15.6) [- Over five hundred Brethren.  Multitudes of unknown witnesses testified of our Lord Jesus Christ.]

[1 Corinthians 15:6 After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. ]

B. A Super Natural Testimony (vs 36) [- But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me. The Miraculous Works of our Lord give testimony to our Lord Jesus Christ.]

1.     He Performed divine Works (John 5.8-9)

[John 5:8-9 8 Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. 9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: . . . ]

2.     He Demonstrated divine compassion (Matt 20.29-34; cf. 34) [- Two blind men by the way side,]

[Matthew 20:34 So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.]

3.     He Revealed His nature (John 20.30-31) [- Jesus is Lord, the works of Christ testified for Jesus.]

[John 20:30-31 30 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: 31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. ]

C. A Divine Testimony (vs 37-38) [- And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape. 38 And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not. Notice carefully the end of verse thirty-eight (vs 38), when you fail to believe the Word of God you fail to believe Almighty God and that is a terrifying things.]

[The Heavenly Father testified for our Lord Jesus Christ.]

1.  The Father testified for Jesus (vs 37) [- And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me . . .]

2.  The Baptism of Jesus (Mark 1.9-11) [- Irrefutable testimony from the mouth of the Heavenly Father.  Also undeniable evidence of the triunity of God, the Trinity.]

[Mark 1:9-11 9 And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan. 10 And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him: 11 And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. ]

4.     The Transfiguration (Luke 9.35)

[Luke 9:28-30 28 And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray. 29 And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering. 30 And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias:]

[Luke 9:34-35 34 While he thus spake, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered into the cloud. 35 And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.]

D. A Historical Testimony (vs 39-47) [- Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. 40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life. 41 I receive not honour from men. 42 But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you. 43 I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive. 44 How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only? 45 Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust. 46 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. 47 But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?]
