Born Again Christians Are For An Abundant Life
John 10:10
10
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to
destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have
it more abundantly.
The other day I heard the president of the Southern Baptist
Convention say, “Baptists are known for what they are against, I would like to
focus on what we are for.” My
thought was, indeed, we do need to talk about what we are for in our Christian
Journey. So for the next number of
weeks I would like to focus on what Born Again Christians ought to be for in
their spiritual lives.
Today we note that Jesus said He came to give us an abundant
life. This would be a fulfilling
life, a life full of contentment and satisfaction.
This would be a victorious life marked by accomplishment and exuberant
joy. Have you ever thought about
what an abundant life might look like?
An abundant life would be a life of experience and adventure.
I do not believe that God intended for His children to sit in their
homes, excluded from the events of our culture and world, watching sermons on
television. There is nothing wrong
with watching good Bible preaching on TV.
But God created our world for our enjoyment and dominion.
God fully intended for those with a heart for the high life to climb the
highest mountains, navigate the strongest rapids, and scale the steepest cliffs.
It is completely within God’s plan for his people to honor Him with
conquering spirits.
An Abundant life could also be one of educational
accomplishment. There is everything
right with God’s children earning the highest degrees and levels of education.
For God’s people to be professors and teachers at every level of our
cultures educational system is noble and a goal to be fulfilled.
It is entirely possible for a born again Christian, who loves the Lord,
and believes the Bible to teach in colleges and universities and maintain their
spiritual integrity. As a matter of
fact, we need many more of these kind of Christians.
As I think about the abundant life I realize that almost every
profession and goal available to mankind is appropriate for the born again
Christian, so long as sin and iniquity are hated and avoided in the process of
their fulfillment. Christians can
honor God, fulfill the biblical mandates for Church attendance, and serve in our
Lord’s kingdom work in the midst of experiencing the fullness of life.
Just be sure you don’t neglect the Word of God and your walk with God in
the process. Make it a point to
include our Lord Jesus Christ in every aspect of your planning and the process
of your abundant life.
Jesus did not come to rob Christians of excitement and
fulfillment in life. Instead, He
came to give us life and that a more abundant life.
Live life to the fullest, and do it with Jesus.
