[We Cannot understand anything, properly, about God apart from God’s revelation of Himself to us.  Our own thoughts would deceive us into believing lies and fabrications about God.  Our Lord is so gracious that He has revealed Himself to us in His written and inspired Word, the Bible.]

[Deuteronomy 29:29 The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.[1] ]

[As born-again Christians we ought to deeply and sincerely desire, hunger and thirst for the revealing Word of God.  Because it is only through this written Word that we can know God and grow in our spiritual relationship with Him.]

[1 Peter 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: ]

[What does the Bible teach us about the Word of God?  What does God reveal or say about His Holy Word?]

A.    The Preparation of God’s Word (2 Tim 3.16-17; 2 Pet 1.20-21; Deut 29.29) [– Where did the Word of God come from?]

[2 Timothy 3:16-17 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. ]

[Inspiration θεόπνευστος (Gk) – from Theós (2316), God, and pnéō (4154), to breathe or blow. Prompted by God, divinely inspired, occurs only in 2 Tim. 3:16 in the NT. . . . but the expression “by the Spirit, the Holy one, being driven or carried [pherómenoi, pres. Pass. Part. Of phérō {5342}, to carry]” (a.t.) referring to those who wrote God’s utterances or prophecies.[2] ]

[Literally inspiration means God breathed.  All scripture was breathed out or spoken by God.  Hence, God is the Author of the Word of God.  Those who wrote the Bible were merely God’s penmen.]

[2 Peter 1:20-21 20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. ]

[Moved  - φερόμενοι (Gk) – from a basic meaning bring, lead; (1) literally bring, bear, carry (LU 23.26); . . . (b) figuratively and passive be moved, be borne along as by God’s Spirit (2P 1.21b)[3] ]

[These penmen were borne along and wrote exactly what God wanted them to write.  Therefore, the Word of God, the Bible, was prepared by God for the benefit of Mankind.]

[Why did God write the Bible?  Because mortal beings can only know the immortal if it is revealed unto them.]

[Deuteronomy 29:29 29 The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law. ]

[We could not know God unless he revealed himself to us in the special revelation of the Word of God.   We can know there is a God and the immensity of His power through the general revelation of creation, but we can only know Him if he reveals Himself to us.  So, our God gave us a written Word that we might know more about Him.]

B.     The Providence of God’s Word (1 Pet 1.25; Psalm 119.89,160)

[1 Peter 1:25 25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you. ]

[Psalm 119:89 89 For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven. ]

[Psalm 119:160 160 Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever. ]

[My emphasis here is on the fact that the Bible, The Word of God, is God’s Word.  It is not John’s gospel in that John wrote what he thought about God.  No the apostle John was moved, or carried along by the Holy Spirit of God so that he wrote what God wanted him to write.  This is God’s Word.  This is god’s revelation of Himself to mankind and we must treat it so.  ]

[We used to print on Bibles, The Holy Bible.  That expressed the sacred regard that ought to be borne in mind by those who carry a Bible, open a Bible, read a Bible, and study a Bible.  Yet today, for multitudes of people, the Bible is nothing more than another book.  It is no more sacred than a college text book.  As a matter of fact most college students spend far more time in their textbooks than they do in the Word of God.]

[This Bible is the Providential Word of God.  It is a holy, sacred book that carries in its pages life and death, blessings and judgments, condemnation and forgiveness.  Let us never forget that these Holy Scriptures are the God’s written word’s to you and I.  But they are God’s Word and they wholly belong to Him.]

C.    The Preservation of God’s Word (1 Pet 1.25; Isa 40.8; Psalm 119.89-90; Matt 5.18) [– The Word of God was written by God, it wholly belongs to God, and Almighty-God has promised to keep it perfectly preserved throughout all ages and for every generation all the way up to the end of time as we know it.]

[1 Peter 1:25 25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. . . .]

[Isaiah 40:8 8 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever. ]

[Psalm 119:89-90 89 For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven. 90 Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: . . . ]

[Matthew 5:18 18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. ]

[God has promised to supernaturally preserve His written Word so that every generation would have His revelation available to them.  This is God’s promise and God has the power to fulfill His promise.]

[Illumination – I once had a professor say in a Bible college class.  “If you believe that you have a perfectly preserved Bible, then you are showing your ignorance.  There is no way that the Bible could have come to us from Hebrew to Aramaic to Greek to Latin and then into English through the hands of men without error.”  This professor manipulated truth to prove his point, as most deceivers do.  His thought is that anything that man holds in his hands he corrupts.  ]

[How did this professor deceive?  The Bible never came through all of those languages into English.  We still have copies of the Word of God in their original languages.  I have copies of the Hebrew and Greek Bibles here with me today.  And yes, these Bibles have been translated into English for us, not through many languages and translations but directly from their original language into English.  He lied to prove his point and he knew he was lying, yet he still did it.  He will answer to God for that one day very soon.]

[The point I am making tonight is that the preservation of God’s Word is not based on mankind’s ability to preserve God’s Word it is based on God’s supernatural ability to keep His Word perfect and pure.  God is able and God has kept His promise.]

D.     The Protection of God’s Word (Deut 4.2; Rev 22.18-19) [– It is a fearful thing to touch God’s Word so as to change it even in the slightest way.  God has said,]

[Deuteronomy 4:2 2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.]

[Revelation 22:18-19 18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. ]

[Almighty-God says that we are not to add anything to His Word nor are we to take anything away from the Word of God.  Now I must ask you to consider,]

[Are There Changes In The Bible Today?}

[Matthew 18:10-12 (KJV) 10 Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven. 11 For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost. 12 How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray?]

[Matthew 18:10-12 (NIV) 10 "See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven. 11 12 "What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? ]

[Matthew 18:10-12 (MSG) 10 "Watch that you don't treat a single one of these childlike believers arrogantly. You realize, don't you, that their personal angels are constantly in touch with my Father in heaven? 11 12 "Look at it this way. If someone has a hundred sheep and one of them wanders off, doesn't he leave the ninety-nine and go after the one? ]

[Matthew 18:10-12 (ESV) 10 “See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven. 11 12 What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray? ]

[Should this verse be removed from our Bible?  Does it really matter?  God says,]

Revelation 22:18-19 18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Deuteronomy 4:2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.

[Should verse 11 be in our Bible?  Is this verse in the best manuscripts?]

[Ancient Manuscripts that contain Matt 18.11]

·         [Mss 12 has verse 11 in it.  Mss 12, Christ Church Library Collection, 9th century text, Micro Fiche, Medieval & Renaissance MS. Collections at Oxford Colleges, Biblical Texts & Studies, Section 1, Reel XC1.]

·         [Mss 61 has verse 11 in it. – Mss 61 (Gregory-Aland), Codex Montfortinaus, 16th century, Trinity Library Collection, Dublin, Pg 68-69.]

·         [Mss 491 has verse 11 in it. – Mss 491 (Gregory-Aland), British Library Collections, f23r, http://www.bl.uk/manuscripts/Viewer.aspx?ref=add_ms_11836_f005r ]

[These are just three ancient manuscripts of the thousands that contain this verse of the Bible and are accurately compiled in the Testus Recptus which is the source text for the King James Bible.  If this verse is in so many ancient manuscripts then why is it dropped out of your version of the Bible?  It should be in your Bible!  Who has the right to remove it?]

[God has perfectly preserved His Word.  It is His Word and we have no right to change it in any way.  God has protected it and we are called upon to carry confidently in hand the Glorious and enduring Word of God.]
