Now notice,

John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

It is a GLORIOUS thing to hear our Lord Jesus Christ say,

John 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

The Grace of God is overwhelming and amazing indeed.  That forgiveness full and free is available to every human being is almost unbelievable, but it is the undeniable testimony of the Word of God.

Simply put, It is NOT God’s will that any person should perish.

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

The bold simple truth is that not everyone that is alive is a child of God.  People are not naturally born into the family of God.  We are all God’s creations and servants.  Left unredeemed every persons destiny is the eternal torment of the Lake of Fire.  Why?  Because our sin puts us there.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; . . .

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Almighty God does not want any human being to be in that terrible everlasting condemnation.  He wants all to repent and be saved.  God wants every person to receive the gift of eternal life through the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ on Calvary’s Cross, and be born again into the family and kingdom of God.

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

However, God will not force anyone to be saved.  You must choose to be saved of your own free will.  There is nothing you can do to earn your salvation, the payment for you sin and the cost of your salvation was paid by the Lord Jesus Christ.  The one thing you must do though is choose to be saved of your own free will.

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

However, many will reject the Lord Jesus Christ and will refuse God free gift of everlasting life.  Because of their choice they will be condemned.

So what about this condemnation?

A.   The Conditions that will be endured in this Condemnation

1.     It will be enduring torment in fire (Luke 16.19-24) - Hades

Luke 16:19-24 19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: 20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, 21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; 23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

Briefly, this rich man was,

·        Conscious and in torment – He was awake and alert

·  Conscientious and in torment – He recognized and remembered

2.     It will be Everlasting torment (Isa 33.14)

Isaiah 33:14 The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?

3.     It will be the Lake of Fire (Rev 20.14-15)

Revelation 20:14-15 14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

4.     It will be the perfect Wrath of God (John 3.36)

John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

B.   The Company that will abide this Condemnation

1.     The Devil (Rev 20.10)

Revelation 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

2.     The Beast and Anti-Christ (Isa. 14:9-11; Rev. 19:20)

Isaiah 14:9-11 9 Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations. 10 All they shall speak and say unto thee, Art thou also become weak as we? art thou become like unto us? 11 Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee.

Revelation 19:20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

3.     The Fallen Angels, Demons (2 Peter 2:4)

2 Peter 2:4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;

4.     The False Religionists (Matt. 23:15, 33)

Matthew 23:15 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.

Matthew 23:33 Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

5.     The Forgetful Nations (Psalm 9:17)

Psalm 9:17 The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.

6.     The Foolish Unbelievers (Matt. 7:21-23; Rev. 21:8; 2 Peter 2:9)

Matthew 7:21-23 21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

2 Peter 2:9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:

C.   The Characteristics that will accent this Condemnation – The Lord Jesus Christ said,

Matthew 18:8 Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire.

1.   Unsurpassed and Unending Misery (Matt. 25:41; Luke 16:24; Jude 7)

Matthew 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

Luke 16:24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

Jude 1:7 Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

2.     Unfound Mercy (Luke 16:25; Matt. 26:24) - No relief ever. Forget the whole idea of purgatory.

Luke 16:25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.

Matthew 26:24 The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born.

3.     Unforgettable Memory (Luke 16:25)

Luke 16:25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.

4.     Inescapable Morgue (Luke 16:26; Job 36:18; 2 Thess. 1:7-9; Rev. 20:15; Matt. 23:33) -  Always dying, yet never perishing.

Luke 16:26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.

Job 36:18 Because there is wrath, beware lest he take thee away with his stroke: then a great ransom cannot deliver thee.

2 Thessalonians 1:7-9 7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, 8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: 9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

Revelation 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Matthew 23:33 Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

5.     Unchanging Monotony (Rev. 14:11) - Hatred and burning in lust of past sins.

Revelation 14:11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

The remedy to this promised and coming condemnation is the Lord Jesus Christ and the salvation only He offers

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

John 3:15-16 15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
